Doshitzh‚ Ukraine: Completed work on rescued Cemetery

english@Oholei / 29 Tamuz 5774
Yet another Cemetery rescued, by Oholei Zadikim attribiuted by visiting group and individual generosity.
Doshitzh, a tyipical Ukranian town located in the Carpathian region, Ukraine, like many other Jewish communities it was basically wiped out during the Holocaust.
Several years ago previous residents and their children traveled on a heritage trip to Ukraine, reaching the town, they tasked themselves to find out the location of the cemetery and graves where their families are buried, after searching the town for the cemetery and finding out that there was no trace of any Jewish settlement of the hundreds of Jews in the town.

A last ditch effort by the group to achieve what they had come for landed with success and behold in thick bushes in sight of dense vegetation were scattered fragments of tombstones which confirmed the location of the cemetery which obviously during the Holocaust had been destroyed and a mass grave now remained.

An attorney called Mrs. Mirav Shagai, participated in the trip. She descends from a family of immigrants from the town.
Upon her return to Israel after the trip, she saw no rest, remembering the state and condition the cemetery was left, unkempt and a disrespectable fashion to the deceased, she subsequently turned to Oholei Zadikim chairman Rabbi Israel Meir Gaby Shlit"a with an impassionate plea to save the cemetery, Rabbi Israel Meir Gaby has confirmed the existence of the cemetery and began attaining the necessary permits for hedging and renovating the area.

Upon receipt of the license to start this holy work and with financial assistance from the Roth family, work has begun with an initial marking the establishment of a cemetery, repairing headstones and graves.

When asked for comments on the accomplishment Rabbi Gaby noted with satisfaction "that another Jewish cemetery merited its survival thanks to yet another generous and concerned group of individuals" commenting further on a different occasion Rabbi Gaby oints out "That it is only through the generosity and concern of people like the aforementioned which allows the organization to continue its vital and holy work".
